Dallas Cowboys Should Strongly Consider Trading Dwayne Harris

The Dallas Cowboys have been playing excellent football through seven weeks of the 2014 season. With success from DeMarco Murray and the entire offensive line in the running game, the Cowboys have been able to quietly become a dangerous offense. Because of all the run plays, the Cowboys have also been a dangerous deep-ball team in 2014. That being said, the player who would likely benefit is Dwayne Harris, but it has been Terrance Williams and Gavin Escobar that have cashed in on the one-on-one coverage down the field.

With his limited role in the offense and his ability in the returning game diminishing, the Cowboys would be smart to trade Harris before the trade deadline is over. Before you go crazy, let me explain. While Harris is one of the NFL‘s best gunners on special teams and perhaps the Cowboys’ special teams captain, he has been a disappointment in 2014. Over the past two seasons, the Cowboys’ offense and defense have enjoyed great field position because of Harris’ ability in bringing back and covering kicks.

With a ton of receiver-needy teams in the league, the Cowboys could get back two late-round draft picks or even a mid-round draft pick in this year’s draft. Harris is 27 years old and he will be entering the prime of his career shortly. While he has never played a huge part in the Cowboys’ offense, in the sample size he has played, Harris has done a good job. With Dez Bryant controlling one side of the offense, Williams on the other and shifty Cole Beasley in the slot, Harris has had problems finding his niche. With a change of scenery and a less productive receiver group in front of him, Harris can become a solid No. 2 receiver in this league, but it won’t be with the Cowboys.
