Point Beach hosting train, tractor event today

Today is the Point Beach Energy Center’s Model Train and Tractor Family Sunday at 6400 Nuclear Road in Two Rivers.

The event runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., with Manitowoc County 4-H participants displaying their farm toy exhibits from the Manitowoc County Fair.

There will be the largest “O” gauge model train layout ever displayed at the Energy Center. Train and farm toys will be available for purchase and there will be a train and tractor play area for children.

Refreshments are available, and there’s no charge for admission.

•A free-throw championship, sponsored by the Mishicot/Tisch Mills Knights of Columbus, will take place Monday at the Holy Cross Parish School gym.

The event is open to boys and girls ages 5 to 14 as of Jan. 1. Registration is from 5:30 to 6 p.m., with the contest starting at 6 p.m.

There is no cost to participate. Ribbons, trophies and medals will be awarded. Kids ages 9 to 14 are eligible to advance to district level competition.

•The Mishicot/Tisch Mills Knights of Columbus Council 4807 is also sponsoring its first math and spelling knowledge contest on Saturday at the Holy Cross Parish, 423 S. Main St.

All students in grades fifth through eighth are invited to participate.

Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. Math knowledge testing begins at 9 a.m. and spelling is set to start at 9:40 a.m. The contest is expected to conclude by 10:15 a.m., with an awards ceremony to follow at about 10:30 a.m.

No electronic devices will be permitted during the contest. Winners will be eligible to participate at the diocesan level and will have the chance to then advance to the state level.

•The Mishicot Sports Booster Club is hosting a fun way to raise funds for the Mishicot School District track and field renovation.

Dueling Pianos, a comedy piano show with audience participation, is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on March 28 at Fox Hills Resort in the Grand Masters Ballroom, 250 West Church St.

Advance tickets cost $25 and are available at the Main Street Coffee Haus and Bistro, 447 E. Main St.; by contacting Cherie Skwor at (920) 428-9257; at the concession stand at home games; and at the high school office.

A limited number of tickets are available. This is an event for those 21 years and older. Tickets at the door will cost $35 if space allows. More information is available online at www.midwestduelingpianos.com.

•The Mishicot Police Department’s free child ID event for Mishicot area residents is from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Elementary School.

An identification kit will be completed for each child attending. The police will take fingerprints and a DNA sample (from a cheek swab) and send the kit home with parents and guardians for safekeeping. •The Mishicot Lions Club continues their annual rose sale until Feb. 15.

The cost is $15 for a dozen long-stemmed roses, greens, baby’s breath, flower nutrient and delivery from Feb. 26-28.
