New Zealander appointed Deputy Chair of LEADR & IAMA Board

New Zealander appointed Deputy Chair of largest dispute resolution membership organisation in the Southern Hemisphere

Former LEADR NZ Inc. Chair and Holland Beckett Partner Mark Beech has been appointed Deputy Chair of the LEADR & IAMA Board. Mark's appointment as Deputy Chair reflects his significant contribution to the DR sector, particularly through the integration of LEADR and LEADR NZ Inc. and more recently of LEADR & IAMA.

LEADR has been influential in New Zealand as a membership organisation, and training and accreditation provider for mediators since the early 1990s. The integration of LEADR with the Institute of Arbitrators and Mediators Australia (IAMA) on 1 January 2015 brought together two of Australasia’s largest membership organisations for Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) practitioners.

LEADR & IAMA is a temporary name; a new name that reflects the broad and international nature of the organisation is in the works. The over 3,500 members of the organisation practice in a wide variety of dispute resolution areas including mediation, arbitration, adjudication, conciliation, facilitation, community engagement, neutral evaluation, conflict coaching and restorative justice.

Mark's appointment provides further assurance that the needs of New Zealand members are firmly in the minds of LEADR & IAMA Board members in their governance role. 16 months on from the integration of LEADR and LEADR NZ, Mark Beech commented “The integration of LEADR NZ and LEADR has been a great success, allowing us to do things we simply would not have been able to do without being part of a larger organisation.”

The LEADR & IAMA bi-annual 'kon gres will be held in cities across Australia and in Auckland in mid-September and will be a great opportunity for members to get together and share learning in the collaborative spirit of 'kon gres.
