Pioneers edge Trailblazers 9-4

The Mt. Whitney Pioneers baseball team scored eight runs in the sixth inning to rally for a 9-4 West Yosemite League victory against the Golden West Trailblazers on Friday at Shahzade Field in Visalia.

Philip Dinis earned the win on the mound, tossing three innings and a strikeout. The Pioneers produced seven hits. Jordan Prendiz and Blake McCowan led the team with two apiece. Mateo Perez, Grant Morris, Jake Ruby and Austin Howard each recorded a hit.

For the Trailblazers, Wyatt Tilley, Zac Legarretta, Troy Stainbrook, Carlos Enriquez and Bryson Johnson each pounded a base hit.

Redwood 8, Hanford 0: The Rangers started the second round of WYL action with a decisive shutout win on Friday in Hanford.

Rickie Garcia, a Fresno Pacific commit, pitched a complete game, striking out six on 74 pitches.

The Rangers, who sealed the win with a five-run third, collected 11 hits. Jace Chamberlin generated a home run, drove in another and walked three times. Cooper Allen, Chris Gonzales and Parker Cantrell both batted 2-for-4. Kameron Trevino knocked in a run and had a single. Cantrell recorded a game-high three RBIs.

Jackson Mattos led Hanford with three singles.

Redwood, who has won four in a row, hosts Hanford next Wednesday at Aaron Hill Field.

Exeter 9, CVC 3: Junior pitcher Tyler Rumbaugh earned the victory in a Central Sequoia League game on Friday in Visalia.

Rumbaugh also led the Monarchs hitting, going 3-for-4. Tyler Sousa and Brenden Ayers each blasted two hits and senior Josh Grimsley had a double for the first-place Monarchs, who improved to 17-5 overall and 7-2 in CSL slate.

Kingsburg 6, Dinuba 1: Senior Hunter Garrison tripled in the Emperors' Central Sequoia League home loss on Friday.

Kingsburg, who tallied eight hits, tacked on a run in the fourth inning, two in the fifth, and three in the seventh.

Dinuba (11-9, 3-6) was held to three hits.

Mission Oak 6, Tulare Union 5: The Hawks withstood a late rally by the Redskins to record an East Yosemite League win Thursday night at Vic Lombardi Field in Live Oak Park.

After three scoreless innings to start the game, Mission Oak (6-16, 1-3) commenced the game's scoring with a two-run third inning. The Hawks were up 6-0 going into the middle of the sixth.

Tulare Union (2-20, 1-3) scored two runs in the sixth, and pushed across three runs in the seventh. But the Hawks secured the victory with Tyson Hooks recording the last three outs for the save.

Justin Albright earned the win. The Mission Oak senior struck out six in six innings. He gave up four hits and two runs.

Redwood 10, Hanford 0: The Rangers kept their co-leader status in the West Yosemite League with a mercy-rule win over the Bullpups in Hanford.

Keeley Hernandez ripped a bases-clearing double, and Rebekah Cervantes went 2-for-2 with two runs, a triple and three RBIs.

Crimson Kaiser limited Hanford to two hits in her five-inning complete game. She also had a double and an RBI.

Exeter 19, CVC 2: The Monarchs totaled 17 hits in their CSL rout of the Cavaliers.

Exeter scored seven in the first and never looked back, adding six in the third, two in the fourth and four in the fifth to enforce the 10-run mercy rule.

CVC pushed across a run each in the third and fifth frames.

Vanessa Grimsley powered Exeter with a game-best four hits. She also plated three runs and scored three times. Julianna Rocha added three hits, three runs and an RBI. Maddie Lopez led the Monarchs with four RBIs. Caitlyn Wallen fired five strikeouts as the winning pitcher.
