Pearson Nabs Bears’ First MVC Swimmer of the Week Honor

Missouri State freshman Josie Pearson has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Swimmer of the Week for her performance at the Show-Me Showdown, the league announced Tuesday, Oct. 6.

Pearson had a solid collegiate debut for the Bears’ women’s swimming and diving team this past weekend, finishing in the top 10 in both of her individual races at the Showdown hosted by Missouri at the Mizzou Aquatics Center on Friday, Oct. 2.

The freshman had one of the top showings for Missouri State at the meet by earning runner-up in the 100 butterfly (57.49). She earned seventh out of 50 swimmers in the 200 individual medley (2:07.94), placing behind five members of the host Tigers and a member of the NCAA Division II 2014-15 runner-up Drury squad.

Pearson also participated in two relay events for MSU, swimming the third leg of the Bears’ 200 medley- and 400 free-relay teams. The freshman’s two individual race finish times are currently atop the Missouri Valley Conference after the opening weekend of competition.

Both the Missouri State men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams host their next four meets at Hammons Student Center. A dual against Evansville begins the action Friday, Oct. 9, at 4 p.m. and Southern Illinois comes to Springfield for a dual at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 10. The Saturday dual against the Salukis will also be a “black out,” with MSU handing out 100 free t-shirts to the first 100 students at the meet and all fans asked to wear a black shirt to the event.
