BASEBALL

Mustang Baseball Christmas Hitting Clinic featuring Josh Reddick of the Oakland Athletics, Dec. 12, South Effingham High School's Mustang Field. Time: 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Arrive 30 minutes early to register. Ages: 6-12. Cost: $50 per player (checks payable to Mustang Diamond Club). Lunch provided. Walk-ups welcome. Instructors include SEHS head coach Ron Womack, assistant coaches Johnny DeRing, Jeremy Turner, Mitchell Curry, Cory Klassen and numerous collegiate players. Campers need to bring own equipment, bat, batting gloves, tennis shoes in case of rain. Water will be provided, but campers can bring own drinks with names on them.

New Hampstead High School six-week baseball camp starting Jan. 17. Classes for grades 1-12 and limited to six players per coach. NHHS head coach Mark Smith will direct the program in conjunction with U.S. Baseball Academy. Sessions offered in advanced hitting, pitching, catching, fielding and baserunning. Space is limited. Youth Basketball Clinic presented by The Academy and YMCA of Coastal Georgia, Dec. 5, Islands YMCA, 66 Johnny Mercer Blvd., Wilmington Island. Times: grades 1-4, 10 a.m.-noon; grades 5-8, noon-2 p.m. Featuring former high school and college player and coach Brad Butterworth, current director of player and coach development for Shoot 360 in Portland, Oregon. MULTIPLE SPORTS

YMCA Champions Program, Islands Family YMCA, 66 Johnny Mercer Blvd., Savannah 31410. Session 2-3 p.m.; Dec. 6. A free program of sports skills and fun for children ages 5-14 with different abilities. Each one-hour session includes skills taught for a specific sport. After learning the sport, the children play a game. Sports skills stations will be adapted to the participant's skill level. RUNNING

Brain & Brawn 5K and 5K Challenge, Dec. 12, Whitemarsh Preserve Trail, Highway 80 and Bryan Woods Road. The event mixes fun, family, science and exercise for all ages. In addition to running a 5K (9 a.m.), entrants can sign up for the 5K Challenge (9:30 a.m.) to put their brains and legs to the test. Each participant in the 5K Challenge must complete six STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) related activities along the 5K course. Cost: 5K - $30 Nov. 21-Dec. 10; $35 Dec. 11-12. 5K Challenge - $45 through Dec. 10; $50 during packet pickup and on race day.
