American Eagle Outfitters Inc. has tapped a veteran retailer and former executive of DSW Inc. and Victoria's Secret Stores to a key leadership position.

Peter Z. Horvath will join Pittsburgh-based American Eagle (NYSE: AEO) as chief global commercial and administrative officer, effective May 9. He'll report to CEO Jay Schottenstein; the two worked together at DSW.

The position will be in charge of a range of duties at the apparel retailer, including global store operations, real estate, merchandise planning and allocation, legal and corporate strategy, and human resources.

“He is an effective and strategic retail executive, with strong consumer and brand experience. He will help us identify new operational efficiencies and drive profitable growth," Schottenstein said in a statement. "I’m confident that Peter will be a valuable addition to our executive team, as we continue to deliver strong business results and propel AEO to even greater heights."

Horvath was executive vice president and chief operating officer of Victoria's Secret from 2008 to 2010 and was president of DSW (NYSE: DSW) from 2005 to 2008 and had a key role in its 2005 IPO, according to American Eagle. He has also worked at The Limited, W.R Grace & Co. and Bristol Myers Inc. and from 2012 to 2015 was CEO and Chairman of Mission Essential Personnel.
