Space travel sounds fun, but it could kill us

Humans have grand aspirations of travelling deep into space.

NASA has plans to send people to Mars in about 2035 and Russia's space agency wants to do it even sooner - by 2030.

India, China and the United Arab Emirates all have space plans too - and there's even a Dutch programme that wants to send people on a one-way trip to the red planet.

However, going to space could be really bad for your health.

The biggie, though, is radiation.

Outside of earth's magnetic field, your exposure to radiation skyrockets, which means just being in space, can cause cancer, central nervous system damage, cataracts and infertility.

Still, NASA is optimistic and thinks it can resolve these issues by the 2030s.
