These shocking photos capture how devastating a small infection can become if not treated properly.

Tractor driver Manakate Khew, 65, struck his head on an implement he was towing and suffered swelling.

He tried treating it himself in 2013 by applying Tiger Balm — a traditional remedy for bruises and strains in Thailand.

But recently, the swelling returned bigger than before and the dad found his head was severely infected.

Doctors removed the infected tissue but found Manakate was in the final stages of lymphoma cancer .

Now the farmer has become extremely weak and has had to be fed by tube. His only carer, his daughter, said Manakate has trouble breathing and has had daunting chemotherapy and radiotherapy sessions.

A famous humanitarian monk from Bangkok, Bhin, persuaded monks in Chahaengsao, Thailand, to fund an oxygen machine for Manakate.

He also donated 20,000 Thai baht (about £500) to help with general expenses as the state pension in the nation is the equivalent to less than £14 per month.
