Southern Response in strong position as Chief Executive steps down to pursue commercial role

Southern Response, the government-owned company settling Canterbury earthquake insurance claims, has confirmed today that Chief Executive Peter Jensen will be stepping down to take up a new role as Chief Executive of Addington Raceway in Christchurch.

Ross Butler, Chair of the Board, said that Mr Jenson’s tenure has successfully led Southern Response through a key transitional period and will leave the organisation with strong foundations for its next phase. “Peter came in with a strong vision for the final stages of Southern Response and his skills, experience, pragmatic approach and passion for Christchurch and Canterbury have served our customers and the organisation well.

“We have always been a company that has had to adapt to meet the needs of our claims and programme of work and we will continue to do so. There is strong governance in place to guide the organisation through this transition. The Board and I will immediately commence the recruitment process of appointing appropriate leadership as Southern Response moves into the next stages of its claim settlement programme and eventual wind-down.

“Peter leaves us to take up the position of Chief Executive at Addington Raceway in late September. Harness racing is a long-time personal interest of Peter’s and this is a rare opportunity in a sector he is passionate about.

“Our purpose and commitment is strongly focused on settling our remaining customers’ claims fairly and as quickly as possible.”

As at 30 May 2017, Southern Response has successfully settled 88 percent of its nearly 8,000 over cap house claims and 99.8 percent of its 21,626 out of scope claims.
