A motorist has died in a car crash after being pursued by police on the M4 near Cardiff.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission has launched an investigation after the man was killed in the collision while driving a Ford Focus dangerously at around 6pm on Saturday.

ITV News reports that South Wales Police deployed a stinger trap to stop the car. Moments later, it collided with a Land Rover Freelander.

The incident happened on the eastbound carriageway between junction 32 and junction 30.

According to the BBC, the driver of the Land Rover Freelander did not suffer serious injuries.

The man who died is from the Gloucester area, police said.
