Entec doubles down with factory service training for gas detection equipment

Auckland-based Entec, a provider of mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and gas detection solutions, has recently invested heavily to increase its depth of knowledge in the service of portable and fixed gas detectors.

Entec specialises in all aspects of gas detection. From sale, service and rental of single & multi-gas portable detectors and lone worker monitoring solutions, through to the specification, supply and installation of fixed point systems.

Gas detectors are critical pieces of safety equipment, and are often deployed into arduous environments with exposure to toxic gases, dust, salt spray and, in the case of portable instruments – everyday wear and tear.

Because of this, the day-to-day reliability of gas detection equipment is dependent upon a strong service and repair facility.

For many years Entec has achieved and maintained the highest level of service accreditation available from Industrial Scientific; its primary supplier of single gas and multi-gas portable gas detectors.

As the company’s product range has expanded into other, more speciality gases and fixed point instruments, Entec has invested in factory service training for its New Plymouth-based service team.

“Our supplier base is international, and our recent training has involved travel to the United Kingdom and to France, so there’s a large cost in travel and technician downtime,” says managing director Bob Weston.

“We now have the confidence – and our customer’s confidence – to carry out in-depth fault finding and routine service and repair tasks. This allows us to deliver better service to our installed base, which is crucial to keep their people and their assets safe. ”

Entec supports its New Plymouth service operation with instrument technicians who are regularly deployed around the country to complete site-based calibration and service work. These technicians bring with them a comprehensive inventory of spare parts and calibration gas.

“We recognise that our customers buy gas detectors in order to have them operating on site. They don’t buy them to have them sitting in a workshop awaiting repair,” says Weston. “We go out of our way to turn all our service jobs around as quickly as possible to maximise uptime in the field.”
