Genesis take Canstar Blue Award

As New Zealanders look forward to leaving the winter blues behind, rising power bills may not be something they’re keen to think about. But using the summer months to fix up the drafty spots and, in the face of rising power costs, research if they’re getting the best deal from their supplier, could improve the warmth of their home while reducing their bills.

Canstar Blue’s Emma Quantrill explains:

“Unfortunately, 53% of the Kiwis we spoke to said they don’t use their heating as much as they would like. Yet, only 38% said they took steps to try and make their home warmer. Where there are big ticket items such as double glazing, roof, and under floor insulation, there are also some, quick, easy and even free ways to keep the bills down. Getting the little jobs done over the summer months can be a lot easier than waiting until the cold, wet weather returns.”

Ways to save

One of the first places to start is to look at the deal you are getting from your power provider and how it compares to other options on the market.

For the 400,000 New Zealander’s who use gas as well as power, sourcing both from a single provider can attract more favourable prices and discounts. 64% of dual fuel customers Canstar Blue spoke to said they thought using the same provider for both gas and power saved them money.

Even if you only need power, shopping around could save you a serious amount of money. Have a current power bill at hand, hop online and see how it compares to other providers. You may be surprised at what’s on offer. Both comparing a signing up to a new supplier can be done online and, if you’re not locked into a contract with your current provider, does not cost a cent.

In addition to reducing the cost of your power and gas, you can also take steps to reduce the amount you use.

Fill in gaps and tighten the hinges on windows and doors to get a snug fit. Put curtains up at windows or line the ones you already have. And, if the budget will stretch, look at additional insulation.

Quantrill continues:
“Comparing power suppliers and considering using a single provider if you are a power and gas customer can give you instant gratification with the savings you could make. But, longer term, the smart thing to do is to look at ways to cut consumption without compromising on comfort.”

Outstanding Dual Fuel customer satisfaction

For the first time, Canstar Blue recently asked dual fuel customers to rate their dual fuel energy provider and we are delighted to reveal that Genesis Energy were rated the maximum five stars for overall customer satisfaction.

Accepting the award on behalf of Genesis Energy, Nigel Clark, executive General Manager Customer and Service Operations said:

“Winning the Canstar Blue award is incredible because it’s come from our customers. This is fantastic feedback for our customer and service teams who’ve worked incredibly hard over the past year to deliver a difference for our dual fuel customers.

“It’s a huge vote of confidence in Genesis, and great motivation for us to keep delivering great energy experiences and competitive energy offers.”
