Sustainable Protein: Healthy People and Planet

Dinner plates across the world are evolving, as conscious consumers are thinking about the impact their choices are having on the planet.

As habits shift and environmental challenges present themselves, people are starting to ask what their role is as food consumers, growers and producers. Stressors on our current food system are increasing, as the world looks ahead to feed close to 10 billion people by 2050. What is the ‘right’ food to eat if you prioritise sustainability? What will a dinner plate look like in 2050? How do we produce enough food whilst achieving our national sustainability goals and reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions?

Changes coming for the meat, and non-meat, food production industries are unprecedented. Blinc Innovation is exploring this topic in a panel event on 29 May in Tai Tapu, near the organisation’s base in Lincoln. Renowned journalist Rod Oram is MC for the event. The panelists are:

The Rt Hon Dame Patsy Reddy GNZM, QSO, Governor-General of New Zealand, who has a genuine interest in sustainability and innovation.

Suzy Amis Cameron, author, environmental advocate and co-founder of the MUSE School in California, the first school in the U.S. to be solar powered, zero waste, with an organic, plant-based lunch program.

Maury Leyland, who holds high profile governance positions and is actively involved with, many privately held primary sector start-up businesses in areas including plant protein and nutrition.

The event explores what steps could be taken to co-create a healthy world. The panelists will challenge the audience to consider the innovation opportunity for the future of food through the lens of the health of people, food production innovation and plant-based versus an omnivorous diet. Attendees are encouraged to bring questions and curiosity, for an event that will bound to make you think before the next time you eat.

At the conclusion of the event panelists are available for interview. Suzy Amis Cameron is also available for book signing (for those that have bought her book ‘OMD : The Simple, Plant-Based Program to Save Your Health and Save the Planet).

Tickets to the event can be purchased by visiting the events page on the Blinc Innovation website.
